Motion to accept the Financial Report was made by Lynch, seconded by Deason, and passed unanimously. 





Nelson reported that the website has been updated.  New photos have been posted as well as board meeting minutes, and the Save the Date for the holiday party.  The topic page will be changed to a photo gallery.  Nelson will post information on the November meeting at The Jimmie Hale Mission, the list of items needed for the toiletry shoe box drive, and details of the Wagon Wash. 


Only two survey responses were received for September.  


Community Service

The Wagon Wash at Children’s Hospital will take place Saturday, November 15 from 9:00 am – 11 am.  Whitehurst will draft an email to be distributed to the membership. 


Plastic shoe boxes for the toiletry drive will be distributed today.



Reservations for today’s meeting are 72. 


The Jimmie Hale Mission will host us next month.  The holiday party at The Tutwiler on Thursday, December 11 from 5:30 pm – 8 pm has been announced.


Eades will work on scheduling the speakers and locations for January and February.    


Golf Tournament

CAHABA will again support the Southeastern Blind Rehabilitation Center Alumni Association next year.  The tournament date is June 4, 2015.  A giant check will be presented to Karl and Myra Harper during today’s luncheon. 


The CVB will be informed of this date so our tournament won’t conflict with theirs. 



The Alabama Restaurant and Hospitality Alliance’s Hospitality Stars of Alabama Awards Dinner will occur Monday, October 27 at The Hotel at Auburn University.  Lynch will make this announcement during lunch.  Members have also been informed by email.     


Membership – Renee Deason reporting

Renewals were received from Chris Nelson, Best Western International; Carlos Otalora, Total Entertainment; Joseph Mitchell, Jefferson State Community College; and Susette Hunter, Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.  New members joining in September are Jeff McDowell, Alliance Protective Services, and Brad Witzel, Birmingham Holiday Inn Airport.


Certificates have been prepared for all and will be presented.



Scholarship applications have been emailed to participating schools and are due to Whitehurst by November 20.  Gowers and Baxter will assist in selecting two recipients of $1,000 each who will be notified by December 5.

The ballot will be forwarded by email Monday.  Results will be announced at the November meeting. 


New board members will be contacted by Whitehurst to ensure their commitment, particularly in regards to serving as Treasurer who must be willing to commit for multiple years with intentions to move up as Chairman-Elect for two years then Chairman for two more years.  Article 6 Section 8 needs to be amended to reflect this.  The board will discuss this further next month.  Concern was expressed regarding members who nominate themselves to serve on the board but do not regularly attend our monthly meetings.  


Outgoing board members will be presented awards at the holiday party.



With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
