AFSP's Alabama Chapter Junior Board is gearing up for its fall outreach event that will aim to promote mental health awareness The Art of Hope: Speaking the Unspoken will take place at Avondale Brewing Company on Thursday, September 24, from 6:30-8:30 pm In the weeks leading up to the event, the junior board will be accepting artwork from the Birmingham community that creatively reflects the effects of mental illness, which so often reach beyond words At no admission cost, peruse the gallery of submissions while enjoying heavy hor doeuvres, a cash bar and musical entertainment By creating a safe environment, we hope to illuminate both the struggles and triumphs of mental illness and show those who are battling that they are not alone As Henri Matisse said, Creativity takes courage, and, through our efforts, we hope to create community among those struggling even in darkness
