On River Time will host its third annual Fish On live-auction and dinner at the Florentine building in downtown Birmingham on September 29 from 6:00 - 10:00 pm All proceeds go toward expanding the nonprofits year-round impact on children who have suffered abuse and neglect Crimson Tide football legend and Founder of Big Oak Ranch, John Croyle, will be the keynote speaker Tickets and tables are available here Every year, this event encourages us to reach for big-picture goals, said Executive Director, Jeana Durst We receive a range of positive feedback from some who relate quite personally to the mission and perhaps are just now hearing about us and from others who see how their generosity from the previous year has been a blessing to the campers this year In only five years On River Time has grown from a three-day fly fishing adventure for several lucky children to a year-round source of inspiration and hope for dozens who have suffered through difficult life circumstances ORT now hosts two five-day camp experiences with guided fly fishing, devotionals, conservation education, and even service work The organization communicates with partner organizations year round to cultivate a sense of family and support, provides scholarships, and hosts cookouts with fishing tutorials This year, 24 young people attended camp in two sessions, and ORT broke ground on a Fish On camp cabin Without the generous donations it received at the previous Fish On fundraisers, none of this would be possible, said Durst This years Fish On live auction, conducted by Guin Robinson, will build on the enthusiasm of past years attendees for tax-deductible trip packages Guests will have a choice of dining packages, weekend getaways closer to home or international trips to places such as Italy and Ireland And of course there will be fly fishing packages Dinner, served by the Florentine catering staff, will be included with ticket purchases John Croyle, whose Big Oak Ranch has sent campers to ORT each year, will deliver a keynote speech regarding his impressions about the growth and impact of the organization

Join with a great many other people at this most enjoyable event dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of and generating community support for preserving, nurturing and supporting our marvelous state parks  The objectives of this event are to strategically increase attendance at Alabamas State Parks through social media, word of mouth, and convincing individual park directors to support this initiative  Special programs in connection with this festival on September 24 are designed to increase attendance at our State Parks and allow supporters of the parks to gain additional impact for their message, especially support for Amendment Two to permanently protect Alabamas State Parks funding Bring the whole family and your friends interested in outdoor activities to enjoy the great outdoors at Oak Mountain State Park on September 24  Children of all ages are welcome  When you arrive at the Dogwood Pavilion, please stop by the Love Your State Parks Day Information Booth There you can obtain general information about the Festival and directions to the Southeastern Outings table which will be nearby Please stop by the Southeastern Outings table at the event to visit with us We will have information on Southeastern Outings and engraved mini-carabiner key rings to hand out to prospective new members who sign in with us at the festival  At 2:00 pm during the Love Your State Parks Day Festival on September 24 Southeastern Outings will lead a relatively easy dayhike in Oak Mountain State Park You are encouraged to participate in this hike with others attending the Festival  The hike will be open to all persons attending the Love Your State Parks Day Festival, Southeastern Outings people, and members of the general public visiting the park that afternoon  See separate Create Birmingham event announcement for specific information about the hike Alabama State Parks have some of the most beautiful land that America has to offer  It would be detrimental to wildlife and to communities if those natural areas were not protected  Please come to help us celebrate Love Your State Parks Day! Instructors:Ed Snodgrass, Proprietor, Emory Knoll Farms, Inc, Maryland Julie Price, PhD, Sustainability Coordinator, University of Alabama at Birmingham Friday, October 148:30-4:30 pm Saturday, October 158:30-12:30 pm Location: Birmingham Botanical Gardens and other locations Members:  $110 Non-Members $125 All over the world, more and more green roofs are being installed on a variety of structures - ranging from dog houses and garden sheds to large industrial complexes Replacing bare roof-tops with live plants accomplishes many purposes, among them: reducing the costs of power by forming a natural layer of insulation to regulate building temperatures; prevention of water run-off; aesthetics of plants, rather than bare surfaces; habitat for many living organisms, especially pollinators This event will begin in the classroom where participants will learn the basics of green roof design, installation and maintenance Plant selection will be discussed and images of many green roofs around the world will be shown The class will then go to a site nearby where we will have a hands-on experience planting a green roof! The following morning, we will visit several green roofs in Birmingham, each very different in scope
