Je t'aim - A Valentine in Paris or Dessertissements Parisien-Style Pelham, January 19, 2015: Dessertissements - A Valentine in Paris, is the 7th annual event benefiting the *Alabama Youth Ballet Company, the performing wing of Grebel Center for Dance Proceeds will go towards scholarships for deserving students of ballet, dance classes for those in financial need and for outreach programs which are presented for free This event is sponsored and directed by the Alabama Youth Ballet Guild and will have the traditional Valentine's Day theme this year It will be held on Sunday, February 8, from 2-5pm at the Grebel Center for Dance, 102 Commerce Parkway, Pelham, 35124 Miss Alabama 2013, Chandler Champion, will be our guest emcee this year Chandler studied with Grebel Dance before she attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts and was a summer scholarship recipient twice with the Alabama Youth Ballet Company She also has performed in Stevan Grebel's The Nutcracker in previous years Guests will enjoy dancing, wine, champagne, lemonade and desserts while browsing the Silent Auction items and selecting Valentine gifts for their sweeties Live music by Collage will keep you on your toes, make you smile and fall in love with the sounds of Paris, the Beatles and more The sidewalks at Grebel Dance will be lined with Parisian cafe tables and chairs, weather permitting, as well as indoors at Chez Grebel and where you may even see a Mime walk by When the bidding closes, everyone will move to Studio I for a performance by the outstanding Alabama Youth Ballet which is a preview of the spring dance recital Aurora's Wedding, followed by a free 'Tango in Paris' lesson for couples! Bids will be tallied during the show, and will be announced at the end of the performance Door Prizes will be given and, a Children's Corner and Cake Walk will promise FUN for the kids! Creative Movement & Pre-Ballet Classes - Specifically designed by Deborah Grebel, for pre-school children to encourage self-expression and creative movement in a playful and nurturing environment This class combnies education and gentle structure with spontaneity The class offers music, ranging from nursery rhyme songs, world dance, to classical, to tell stories that the class interprets through movement and dance Deborah Grebel developed the Princess, Princess Ballerina© game for the girls and the Prince, Prince Charming© game for the boys The children develop balance, creativity and rhythm while exploring the different ways they can move with different types of music Floor tumbling is class to assist in strength development to prepare the child for therigors of ballet class The class also utilizes props such as scarves, wands, and stuffed animals for added creativity for Baby Ballet Children learn taking turns, ballet etiquette andoverall social skills Stretching and age-appropriate motor development skills are an important part of this class which is taught by Deborah Grebel who holds degrees in ballet, dance physiology, early childhood education, and kinesiology; and Ms Amelia Grace Self, a former student trained by the Grebel's in ballet and in the teaching program of the studio Ms Amelia also works in a daycare when she is not attending classes at Jefferson State and teaching at Grebel Dance She also teaches a combo ballet/tap/tumbling class for ages 5-7 Tap is offered on a workshop basis, usually one Saturday each month for $10per class The instructor is Hillary Wilson Ballet I - III classes range for children from 7 - 11 years old Children are first placed by age, then by ability The classes begin with the basics of ballet, combined with progressive dance skills By age 9 or 10, the students are introduced to the Vaganova syllabus for their classes These classes are taught by Deborah Grebel and Amanda Brice Stevan Grebel teaches ages 12 and up in levels IV - VI Mrs Grebel has been teaching and choreographing for children for 35 years, beginning at Briarwaood Ballet School, 10 years with the UAB Youth Ballet, 4 years at Montgomery Ballet and she founded the North Jefferson Academy of Dance Deborah has three children and three grandchildren
